• ABOUT MATT FONTAINE

I am a graduate of the Fine Art program at Grant MacEwan as well as The Design Studies program with  a major in Design and Illustration, also at Grant MacEwan. For the last year I have gradually been working on making new work and getting my name out there! It's been a combination of hard work and a lot of self promotion! I am on Twitter by the way! Facebook too! ;)

Ever since I was a child I've loved to draw and my influences started with comics and have spread out from there. My style that I aim for is a look of semi realism. I like portraits and images that don't try to make you wonder if it's a painting or a photograph. Though I admire those artists who are talented enough to do that. For me the kind of style I like tends to be a look that has a real drawn and sketchy look to them. This is a style I aim to push my art towards.

On the design end of things, I love to design logos that have more of  a fun grungy look to them. I love logos that play on the words of a company. Those logos that have hidden images in them, such as the FedEx logo. I work in an environment where I constantly see people sending me logos that are poor resolution jpgs and/or look blurry. I believe that all logos should be vectored, it allows for maximum flexibility. When I create a logo I always start by working in black and white and then from there I move onto the colors. A logo has to be able to look good as a one color design because one day there will be need for it and the last thing a client wants is for their logo to lose all legibility.

I also collect business cards. Business cards need to be able to stand out and be different from other cards. I always get comments about my cards simply because my cards are in the shape of a square rather then the standard rectangle. Changing simply things like the shape of the card or even the material the card is printed on can do wonders! People notice cards that don't look like your standard white rectangle card!

Are you looking to get a poster done? Maybe business cards or a logo or both?  A CD or book cover? Maybe you want an illustration made for you or your company? Please feel free to contact me if you'd like and we can collaborate on a project or two!

Thanks for visiting the site and I hope you like what you see!
