  • Some new stuff!

  • Late New Years Resolutions and stuff.

I need to start being more active on this blog O’mine. I’ve learned in the last year that one of the ways to get recognition and be noticed is to just get  your art visible by as many eyes as possible. I think a lot of designers and illustrators out there who are super famous and successful at what they do didn’t just get that way overnight. They worked for years perfecting their craft and slowly getting a following of people who know about them. That’s what I’ve been doing this year and the whole thing is really a trial and error process I’ve learned. It’s like playing WOW, you do stuff and you’re all like “Yah this is working” and then someone comes along and shows you something and they’re all like “Hey NOOB! You’re doing it all wrong! This is how you do it!”…well I mean no ones said anything like that to me yet, so I must be doing something right, though I imagine there’s a lot I still need to learn. Both about my craft and the business side of it. That’s what’s great about what I do though, every new project you learn something different!

Anyways, about the New Years thing. I don’t do resolutions but I will say that I have some goals. I’ve worked hard at getting my name out to the world and people have seen the stuff I do. I’ve had an amazing year! My work has grown a lot since I first decided to focus on vector art!  I look back at Frankenstein, the first real vector piece I did and while I still love it, I look back at it and think of all the things I would do with it now! Even though I think I’ve worked hard and all, I think I’ve still been far to passive about getting my name out there. I joined Social Media sites like Twitter, Tumblr and I’ve gotten invites to a bunch of cool inspiration sites but I think it’s time to finally do some real self promotion! The kind that costs money! So that’s one goal I have this year, to get post cards or some kind of mailer done and send it to companies worldwide!

Another goal is very simply to expand my work, be more creative and try new things! Always good goals!

The image is a work in progress pic of an illustration I am doing of John Locke from Lost. I did one once before but I think I can do better!

  • I recently discovered Mondo tees and after looking at all of the prints on that site it inspired me to do something that was purposely meant for screen printing as well as something that had a fairly limited color palette. I wanted to work with a subject that is in a movie and I thought it would be fun to do Robocop!

The inspiration for the sparks behind his head came from an illustration I saw on tumbr and there is an artist I like who I’ve seen do it and I always wanted to do something similar. I am talking about both the color and the look and after I did it thats when the title came to me! This is what happens when Robocop falls in love! There are sparks!

  • Big Cartel store!

So in the near future I plan to start up a big cartel store!

I have a bunch of prints made that I need to sell so I plan to take photos of them and start selling them all! First the main product will be one size of prints, but in the future I’ll start to offer smaller sizes as well as maybe a few other things like stickers and stuff like that!

I have a society6 shop that you can buy a bunch of my stuff on but the big difference will be that the store from my own store will be signed and come directly from me.

Oh also, in the near future I plan to make a poster that is built specifically for screen printing and I want to get about 50 prints screen printed on high quality paper. Each print will be about 19” by 26”. Because of the cost to get this printed I need to get my feet wet with selling stuff online which is why I’ve decided to open up this store!

    Stay tuned!

  • The idea for this stemmed from another illustration I saw which used blue and red and used transparency with two objects overlapping. My idea for this came from the use of 2 colors and mushroomed into 4 spacemen representing CMYK!

  • Website edits

So I am currently redoing my website. It was going good for a while but today I noticed that all of my project descriptions were showing up in the yellow section of the webpage. This will need to be fixed in time.

My website is built using behance Prosite and so far Prosite really seems to be fighting with me on the way I want my site to look. I can’t wait until they bring in HTML editing! Seems like that is something that should have been there since the start!

  • This is a cd cover I recently saw online by Jacqui Oakley. It’s amazing and I love it! I’ve been wanting to do something similar for quite some time. Maybe some day soon I’ll do my version of something like this. For me I picture a lion head with a crown on top or something.

    Check it out

    and the artists website!
